All-County Auditions Requirements
All-County Audition Requirements Senior Band (9th-12th grades)
The Senior Band Audition Requirements for 9-12th grade winds and percussion will be the same as the SCBDA CLINIC BAND requirements with the following exceptions:
♫ Wind students are encouraged to play the All-State solo, but may choose a different solo if they wish. 11th and 12th grade students may play the SCBDA Senior Band solo; they do not have to play the Clinic solo.
♫ Terms will not be multiple-choice. Students will be given 5 terms and they will read each term and say the definition.
♫ Students will have 2.5 minutes to play their 9 major scales.
♫ No part of any audition is blind.
Percussionists will follow the SCBDA percussion requirements for CLINIC BAND.
♫ Students will choose ONE of TWO audition areas: snare, mallets or timpani.
♫ Mallet/battery MUST play the SCBDA required solo, but can choose their level. (Clinic or Senior)
♫ Timpani may choose to play the SCBDA solo or another appropriate timpani solo.
♫ Students must bring their own snare drum, sticks, and mallets to the audition.
♫ A xylophone and/or marimba will be available in the audition.
♫ Crash cymbals will be provided, but students may bring their own if they wish.
♫ Remember the buzz roll (pp-ff-pp) has now replaced long roll.
- Students will be placed into one of two high school ensembles.
- Senior Symphonic Band will consist of about 115 9th-12th grade students.
Instrumentation is based on All-State Band numbers but there is flexibility if the judging committee deems it necessary to take more in a section.
- Wind Ensemble will consist of about 45 9th-12th grade students. This ensemble includes the top scoring instrumentalists from each section.
- Students must score at least 50% to be placed into either ensemble.
